The session aimed to build participants’ understanding of democratic values and strengthen their capacity for leadership, community participation, and peaceful conflict resolution.

Key Learning Areas

Democracy and Its Principles

Democracy was introduced as a system where power belongs to the people, based on participation and consent. Key principles discussed included political equality, citizen participation, rule of law, protection of human rights, accountability, and transparency. The training highlighted how democracy ensures public participation, prevents abuse of power, and promotes justice and good governance.

Democratic Skills

Participants explored essential democratic skills such as civic awareness, critical thinking, active participation, advocacy, collaboration, leadership, communication, and accountability. These skills were presented as vital for informed decision-making, inclusive leadership, and effective community engagement.

Accountability and Community Practice Practical scenarios illustrated how democratic principles apply in real-life contexts. Discussions focused on holding leaders accountable, applying laws fairly, managing community resources
transparently, and ensuring inclusive decision-making through representative structures.

Diplomacy and Peaceful Conflict Resolution

Diplomacy was defined as resolving conflicts through dialogue and negotiation rather than force. Participants learned the importance of diplomacy in building trust, promoting fair solutions, preventing conflict, and supporting community stability. Key diplomacy skills included communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, representation, and problem-solving.
